How to change the defult remote desktop port in Windows 11:

With many users still working from home and making use of Microsoft remote desktop connection directly to their office PC's it's useful to know how to change the default remote desktop port. It's also better for security to change the default port (3389).

Step by step (Registry editor):

• Start the registry editor.
• Navigate to the following registry subkey:
• HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System
  \CurrentControlSet\Control
  \Terminal Server\WinStations\RDP-Tcp.
• Find PortNumber.
• Click Edit → Modify, and then click Decimal.
• Type the new port number, and then click OK.
• Reboot your PC.

Step by step (Windows firewall):

• Using your search bar type in the word firewall.
• Click to open Windows defender firewall with advanced security.
• Click inbound rules.
• Click new rule.
• Select port → click next → TCP → Specify port number.
• Type in the same port number you set in registry editor.
• Name the rule (example RDT2).
• Click finish.

From the video below we will open the registry editor in Windows 11 and set the new remote desktop port to 3096. Once this is done we will open Windows firewall (advanced) and create a new rule allowing port 3096 inbound rules.
