Teams displaying the wrong name:
So, we had a customer flag that the display name in her teams had mysteriously changed. It looked like this:
The user is Emily Baxter but the name to the left of her image is displaying as M Sriharan...
I did a load of reading about the teams cache, clearing the cache etc which seemed far fetched but it was pretty much all i could find about teams displaying the wrong name. I also did the obvious and checked the users 365 account which all looked fine.
Solution:
The solution turned out to be really simple! This name to the left of the users image turned out to be the organisation name (set in 365 admin) and nothing to do with the user profile.
How to set organisaion name in 365:
- Login to 365 as an admin (login.microsoftonline.com)
- Go to admin center → settings → org settings
- Click organizational profile
- Click organization information
- Change the organisation display name, save
- Wait for teams / other office apps to update
